Kratom tolerance can occur if you left it unchecked. Although the case of dependence is quite rare, it’s still a regrettable part of Kratom’s side effects.

Thankfully, it’s easy to keep Kratom under control as well as to taper it down for most people.

At the very least, you can be assured that it’s much easier than trying to quit opiates, cigarettes, or alcohols.

What is Tolerance and Why Does It Happen?

To put it simply, tolerance is what happens when you have to take more Kratom than you initially do to feel the same effects. It could start after a week or two, or maybe months or even years.

When you start taking Kratom, your body will make adjustments to having the new substance in it.

Over time, it gets used to having the substance around and you will then notice less of the Kratom’s effect. So, you will take more.

The next thing you know, your body will think that Kratom is part of its own and form a tolerance for it. If you take Kratom away, it will take a while for your body to adjust back to normal.

When Is It Too Much?

You will know you are taking too much Kratom when your original dose has doubled up.

If at first you take 5 grams each day and you notice that after a month you start taking 10 grams to feel the same effect, then your body has already built up tolerance.

When you ignore the sign, your dose is more likely to keep on increasing. Even then, the effects might still feel dull and you will end up losing Kratom’s beneficial effects.

Many users said that with Kratom, taking less is more. That statement is understandable as at low dose, Kratom will have stimulating effects

Take more and you will feel its sedating effects, then, at some point, the effects will eventually level off.

Maintaining a regular dose that does not exceed what you need will be enough to avoid building Kratom tolerance.

1. Taking Regular Breaks

According to some Kratom active users, taking regular breaks will help you taper down Kratom.

You can take a break every week, 2 weeks, or every month. You can set out how many days you want your break to be too.

For some, they will usually take 2 days break every week or 4 days break every month.

Here is what Drew Turner, a Navy veteran that is interviewed by KratomScience do:

“I take a 4 day break every 28 days to let my body process out and rest to some extent…No addiction or withdrawal issues either, my doctors had me take a 14 day break in 2016 just to see what long-term use may be causing for me, and I didn’t then, nor now, run in to any physical dependency. It appears that much of that comes as some [users] increase dosage for extended periods. Luckily I haven’t had to do that and still stick to my one pint of kratom tea in the morning (with an occasional second pint late in the day if I’ve overdone it physically) and each pint is roughly 5 grams of kratom leaf made into a tea.”

When you take your break, you can try to find other activities to keep yourself busy and forget about not taking Kratom.

It is preferable to take your break on weekends when you don’t have to work.

2. Reducing dosage

You can reduce your current dosage by taking .5 -1 grams less of Kratom every 2 days to taper down your tolerance.

This is what one of the Kratom user do:

“My preferred tapering schedule is to reduce one gram every two days,” a kratom consumer told us. “It’s pretty slow and you definitely don’t notice any withdrawal symptoms, even with a high tolerance. Compared to opiate withdrawal, it’s nothing. If you don’t have that reference, I can definitely say that it’s not pleasant. You won’t be puking or anything, but you will be incredibly restless. Being warm/hot makes it much worse. I found being cold helped. It’s like you can’t really get comfortable no matter what. Sleeping is difficult because you can’t stay in a position long enough to fall asleep. And then wake up from it. At least that was my experience. Not debilitating. But definitely something you’d want to avoid.”

To make your measurement easier, you can also put your Kratom dose in capsules and schedule the amount of capsule you will take each week. With that, you can reduce your Kratom intake by taking 1 or 2 capsules less every 2 days.
